The lust for vengeance overpowers maternal love in one of the most shocking of all the Greek tragedies. First produced in 431 BC, Medea has haunted Western theatre for over 2400 years and presents one of the strongest female characters ever to appear on stage.  This emotionally complex story “is a study of power and of the operations of power, and of the behavior of human beings under pressure when power squeezes them tight.” ~ Margaret Atwood

Directed by Augustine Ripa
November 15, 16, 20, 21, 22, 2013 – 8:00 pm
November 17, 2013 – 2:00 pm

“A writer in a totalitarian state is interrogated about the gruesome content of his short stories and their similarities to a number of child-murders that are happening in his town.” –Act II

“Comedies don't come any blacker than "The Pillowman," the spellbinding stunner of a play by Martin McDonagh…The laughs…are the kind that trail into gulps and gasps…Yet for all its darkness of plot and imagery, "The Pillowman" - which won the Olivier Award in London for best new play…dazzles with a brightness now largely absent from Broadway… What "The Pillowman" is about, above all, is storytelling and the thrilling narrative potential of theater itself.”  —Ben Brantly, The New York Times

Funny, but for mature audiences.

Death brings people together. Only thing is, somebody has stolen the body. The next 24 hours showcase a parade of kids having an unscheduled reunion as adults struggle to deal with their personal grief, their past, their present and each other.

The New York Times praised this play as "a scorching and dark new comedy. Mr. Guirgis has one of the finest imaginations for dialogue to come along in years."
